Dental mouthguards may be worn to prevent patients from grinding or clenching their teeth. They arealso used to help with sleep apnea symptoms, and to protect teeth from injury during sports. At ourpractice, we work with patients who have concerns about protecting their teeth, and part of ourevaluation process is to determine if patients may benefit from a mouthguard.

As with any device, it is important to understand how to keep your mouthguard clean aftereach use.Taking care of your mouthguard is important to ensure the guard continues to protect your teethproperly. We recommend if patients use a mouthguard to add the cleaning process to your daily oralhygiene routine at home.

How to Care For Your Mouthguard At Home Daily

 • Rinse your mouthguard immediately after each use with warm water. This helps to loosen upany bacteria or plaque that may have built up while wearing the device.
 • Gently brush your mouthguard using a toothbrush. A separate toothbrush can be used for thisprocess if you prefer to not use the brush used for your teeth.
 • Do not use toothpaste to brush your mouthguard as this can be too abrasive, and could damagethe mouthguard.
 • Set the clean mouthguard on a clean surface and allow it todry completely. If you do not letyour mouthguard dry completely bacteria growth may occur. Typically, the drying process takesbetween 15-30 minutes.
 • Once the mouthguard is dry store the guard in a case toprotectit from any damage. It may bebest to store the mouthguard outside of the bathroom toensurethe humidity or steam doesnot cause the mouthguard to warp over time.

When Should I Deep Clean My Mouthguard?

We recommend patients should deep clean their mouthguard at least once a week. Patients canuse adenture cleaner from your local pharmacy, mouthwash mixed with water, or mix vinegar and hydrogenperoxide together. Place the mouthguard in a bowl, and let it soak in the mixture of your choice for atleast 30 minutes.

Once the mouthguard has soaked you can remove it, and allow it to dry completely before placing itback in the case. Cleaning the mouthguard case is also important. Cases can be hand washed everycouple of days to remove any bacteria that has collected over time. We recommend mouthguard casesbe replaced every 6-12 months.

When you visit our office always bring your mouthguard and case. This gives our doctor the ability toinspect your mouthguard, andensure the guard still fits properly. Our team can also help you clean theguard if necessary during your appointment. Taking care of your mouthguard is easy if you incorporatethe cleaning process into your oral hygiene routine at home.

How Can I Remove Coffee Stains From My Teeth? https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-can-i-remove-coffee-stains-from-my-teeth/ https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-can-i-remove-coffee-stains-from-my-teeth/#respond Tue, 16 Aug 2022 04:21:34 +0000 https://www.mesquitedental.net/?p=2788 Read more]]>

Coffee is a popular beverage, and many enjoy that cup or two in the morning each day. The downside to coffee is that it can cause staining on your teeth. There are treatments patients can do at home, or in our office to remove those annoying coffee stains. At Mesquite Dental, we offer many cosmetic dental services, and one of our most popular is teeth whitening treatment.

If you are tired of looking at yellow or stained teeth from coffee, then Mesquite Dental is here to help. Our team provides a detailed consultation process to evaluate your teeth and mouth, and create a customized treatment that will work for you. We will discuss all of your teeth whitening options, and give you tips and tricks on how to keep your teeth white at home.

Why Does Coffee Stain Our Teeth?

Coffee contains tannins, and this helps give coffee that deep flavor and brown color. Our teeth are filled with many little pores, and the tannins tend to stick to our teeth when we drink coffee. Plaque attracts the tannins and those can easily be cleaned away. Stains on the enamel of your teeth will need to be treated with a tooth whitening procedure.

How Can Teeth Whitening Help?

Teeth whitening procedures can be done in our office or in the comfort of your own home. Our treatments use a high-quality gel to whiten your teeth safely, and remove coffee stains. The peroxides in the gel are able to reach through the enamel and bleach the stain away. Teeth whitening can restore your smile, and give you bright white teeth in just a few treatments. Let our team help you transform your teeth and restore your confidence. To find out more about our in-office or at-home whitening services, we encourage you to schedule a cosmetic consultation.

What Can I Do at Home To Prevent Coffee Stains?

 • Drink your coffee through a straw to avoid direct contact with your teeth.
 • Use a whitening toothpaste or mouthwash.
 • Rinse your mouth out or brush your teeth after drinking coffee.
 • Avoid charcoal toothpaste as this can damage your enamel.

Full Mouth Dental Implants In Mesquite

Full mouth dental implants are a very effective way to replace missing teeth while improving your smile and overall oral health. Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone and act as anchors for replacement teeth.

Dental implants can help to preserve the bone in the jaw and prevent deterioration. This is because when you lose a tooth, the surrounding bone begins to shrink. Dental implants can help to stop this process and keep your jawbone healthy.

How Much Do Full Mouth Dental Implants Cost?

The cost of full mouth dental implants can vary on a number of factors.

 • The number of dental implants placed
 • The type of dental prosthesis you want
 • If the final prosthesis is going to be a fixed (all on 4 dental implants ) or removable implant (snap-on-dentures)
 • If you will be needing additional surgical procedures like bone augmentation or sinus lift.
 • If you need more advanced procedures like Zygoma implants.

The cost of full mouth dental implants can vary depending on the prosthesis. For example, snap on dentures range from approximately $10,000 per arch (top or bottom) while a fixed dental prosthesis (all on 4 dental implants) can cost up to $50,000-$60,000. Like any advanced surgical procedure, if additional procedures are needed in order to complete a full mouth reconstruction, then prices will naturally rise accordingly.

All-On-4 Dental Implants Vs. Snap on Dentures

Snap on dentures are supported by 2-4 implants. The number of upper and lower Implants vary depending upon the individual needs for stability, quality of life improvement as well as cost-effectiveness. consideration when selecting which type is best suited towards your personal situation

All on four dental implants use a minimum of 4 dental implants on the upper and lower arch of your mouth, probably more if Dr. George decides you may benefit from having additional implants done for the long term success of your treatment. The best way to review your options is to schedule a consultation. From there, our Mesquite, TX implant dentist, Dr. George, will review your options with you.

Dental implant costs can vary depending on several factors

 • Geographic location
 • Who is placing the implant
 • What kind of dental implant is needed
 • Additional procedures needed for a dental implant

Geographic locations for dental implants

While this may be a small factor in determining how much a dental implant will cost, it is a factor nonetheless. Te cost of getting a dental implant placed in New York, NY will be higher than having one placed in Mexico or Costa Rica. Often times, having dental implants placed in another country will initially have a smaller cost. However, it must be noted that it may be risky to have dental implants placed in another country due to the fact that there may be steps missed in the dental implant process in order to avoid additional trips or appointments. Additionally, they often lack the proper equipment to create same-day dental crowns that are placed on top of the implant. You may end up paying more for additional trips to your appointments or to have the dental implant work redone correctly.

What kind of dental implant is needed

Dental implant costs can also vary depending on which type of dental implant may be needed. You need a single dental implant, multiple dental implants, or you may need full mouth dental implants (full arch implant-supported dentures). Obviously, full mouth dental implants cost more than having one single tooth implant placed. There are a wide variety of scenarios when it comes to determining which tooth replacement options are best for you. If you are only missing one tooth, a dental bridge might be an easy solution to your dental problems. You may discover other options to replace missing teeth, such as traditional dentures. Scheduling an appointment for a consultation with a dentist is the only way you will truly know what options will be best for you. Scheduling an appointment with a dentist will allow you the opportunity to find out important financing information such as additional costs, third-party financing options, in-house payment plans, etc.

Additional procedures like bone grafting or sinus elevation.

During your consultation, you may discover additional procedures that may be needed in order to complete the dental implant procedure. Bone grafts are used when a patient doesn’t have sufficient healthy, natural bones in their mouth that are capable of supporting the dental implant. Bone grafts are used to grow bone around a dental implant device to help stabilize the implant.

Sinus elevation, also known as a sinus lift or sinus augmentation, may be needed to add bone tissue to the upper jaw in order to avoid disrupting the sinus cavity with dental implants. This is often done when there’s not enough room to place an implant due to small jaw size.
For example, at Mesquite Dental and Implant Center, the average cost for a single dental implant is approximately $3,100. The cost may be different for a complete full mouth replacement since it depends upon how many dental implants you want to stabilize the dentures. Like on the bottom denture, you can go with a minimum of 2 to 4 or more implants. For that reason, it is very challenging to tell you over the phone what the cost of dental implants will be because we have not seen you yet. Unless we see you and listen to your story & understand what you want, there’s no way to provide an accurate cost.

The real questions you should be asking are...

 • What kind of support will you get when the treatment is completed?
 • Are you going to see the same dentist every time you come to the office?
 • How long has this dentist been placing dental implants, and how long will he/she be there?
 • Is this a private office or a corporate office where you will never be guaranteed to see your favorite dentist after some time?

Final thoughts

Unfortunately, there is no black and white answer when it comes to the total cost of dental implants for healthy teeth. It all depends on your desire on the level of outcome you want and what will be needed to complete the dental implant process.

Are Porcelain Veneers Better Than Composite Veneers? https://www.mesquitedental.net/are-porcelain-veneers-better-than-composite-veneers/ https://www.mesquitedental.net/are-porcelain-veneers-better-than-composite-veneers/#respond Mon, 28 Feb 2022 16:46:34 +0000 https://www.mesquitedental.net/?p=2542 Read more]]>

If you have chipped, cracked, stained, or uneven teeth and are embarrassed to speak around others, veneers can transform your smile. Veneers can make your teeth look natural and the process is easy and minimally invasive. The veneers are bonded to your teeth using a cement material and little preparation is required. The two common types of veneers used today are porcelain and composite veneers. Both materials can correct imperfections and match the shade of your natural teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are durable and made out of ceramic. This material is easily customized to fit your teeth and is great for correcting chips, gaps, or uneven teeth. The thin shells of porcelain are applied to the outer surface of your teeth, and the process typically only requires two office visits.

During the veneer procedure, we gently prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel. This helps the material to bond to your teeth. Our team will take impressions of your teeth and these are sent out to a lab. We can place temporary veneers while we wait for your permanent veneers to be fabricated. When you return for your second appointment, we will bond the veneers to your teeth and restore your smile.

Porcelain veneers tend to be more durable and last longer compared to composite veneers. On average, porcelain veneers last between 10-15 years and have less risk for breaking or chipping. We do recommend patients be careful with their porcelain veneers. If a veneer is damaged, the entire veneer must be replaced. Porcelain veneers look natural and are stain-resistant. They do tend to cost more compared to composite veneers, and this is because both placement and the overall process are more time-consuming.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are similar to porcelain veneers and also help to correct gaps, chips, or uneven length. The overall process for composite veneers is a lot faster, and can be completed in just one appointment. Composite veneers are durable, but not as durable as porcelain veneers, and may not last as long. On average, composite veneers can last between 4-8 years and cost less compared to porcelain veneers.

If your composite veneers are damaged the composite material is easier to fix compared to porcelain veneers. During the composite veneer process, we prepare your teeth by cleaning the surface to ensure the veneer can bond properly to the tooth. The composite resin material is added to your teeth, and the area is cured. We then polish the teeth leaving you with a brand-new smile.

Which Type of Veneer Is Best for Me?

When choosing the best type of veneer, we will begin with a detailed consultation to examine your teeth. The veneer used will depend on the severity of the correction required and the work that is needed to restore your smile. Our team will educate you on the different types of veneers and the benefits of each to help you make the best decision.

What Are the Benefits of Veneers?

 • Veneers look and feel natural and comfortable.
 • There is little preparation required for veneers.
 • Veneers can be placed in only two appointments.
 • Veneers can help correct cracks, chips, or uneven teeth.
 • Veneers can close gaps between teeth.
 • Veneers are durable and stain-resistant.
 • Confidence is increased and self-esteem restored.
 • Veneers are low maintenance.
 • Veneers cost less compared to other cosmetic treatments.

How Much Do Veneers Generally Cost? https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-much-do-veneers-generally-cost/ https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-much-do-veneers-generally-cost/#respond Tue, 15 Feb 2022 15:19:35 +0000 https://www.mesquitedental.net/?p=2528 Read more]]>

Veneers can help patients correct chips, cracks, uneven, or stained teeth and restore a smile quickly. Dental veneers are made out of either porcelain or composite, and both materials are the color of our natural teeth. Dental veneers are used to cover the front surface of your teeth and require little preparation.

Our doctors have years of experience in cosmetic dentistry, and Mesquite Dental & Implant Center offers many cosmetic services to help rejuvenate your smile. Our skill and attention to detail can help restore your confidence and achieve the perfect smile.

Many patients wonder how much veneers generally cost so they can plan ahead when choosing a treatment plan. Porcelain veneers are the most durable type of veneer and tend to cost more compared to composite veneers. On average porcelain veneers can cost between $900-$2,500 per tooth. On the other hand, composite veneers are easier to place but do cost less compared to porcelain veneers. Composite veneers are not as durable and can cost between $250-$1,500 per tooth.

During our detailed consultation process, our doctor will take a look at your teeth and mouth and determine which type of veneer is best. We encourage our patients to ask questions, and we will help you understand the benefits of each type of veneer.

What Can I Expect During the Veneers Process?

If you decide to move forward with veneers the process is quick and minimally invasive. Porcelain veneers require some preparation during the first appointment to ensure the veneer can bond properly to the tooth. Impressions are taken and sent out, and we require the patient to return for a second appointment to have their veneers placed. Temporary veneers may be used while the patient waits for their permanent veneers.

The process for composite veneers is similar, but this option can be done in just one appointment. The tooth is prepared and the composite material is bonded to the tooth that same day. The area is cured and polished, and your smile is restored.

Both types of veneers can give patients a beautiful natural-looking smile. Let our team at Mesquite Dental & Implant Center help you correct those areas that bother you, and allow you to feel comfortable around others again. We love helping our patients and welcome you to join our dental family.

What Are the Benefits of Veneers?

 • Little preparation is required.
 • Veneers look and feel natural.
 • Veneers can correct chips, cracks, or uneven teeth.
 • Can close gaps between teeth.
 • Durable and stain-resistant.
 • Low maintenance and cost-effective.
 • Can be placed in only two appointments.

When you decide to invest in dental implants to restore your smile, you want to make sure you find the perfect dentist. Quality dentistry you can count on is important to ensure your implant procedure is successful.

There are many things to look out for when choosing a dentist in your area. Dentists should have proper training and years of experience in implant dentistry. It is important that the dentist you choose is heavily involved in continuing education. This ensures they are staying on top of the latest trends and techniques available in the dental industry. If you need a source or list of dentists in your area, you can visit the American Academy of Implant Dentistry website to locate an implant expert.

What Are Tips To Consider When Choosing My Dentist?

 • Complete research on your own and find out what services your dentist offers, and how many years they have been treating patients.
 • Check on their continuing education experience to ensure your dentist is providing the highest level of care and technology to all patients.
 • Research or ask questions about the dentist’s experience and background on implant dentistry, and how many patients they have treated successfully.
 • Ask friends or neighbors that have had implant surgery, and have them provide feedback on the procedure and recovery process.
 • Look for a full-service practice that can handle the entire process from start to finish. You don’t want to have to visit multiple offices when you are going through an extensive process like dental implant surgery.
 • Talk to your dentist about sedation options and what may work best for you. It is important to feel comfortable about the dental implant process, and your dentist should want to help choose the best option for sedation that works for you.

At Mesquite Dental & Implant Center, we are a full-service practice, and our passion is restoring smiles for our patients. How Often Do Dental Implants Need to Be Replaced? https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-often-do-dental-implants-need-to-be-replaced/ https://www.mesquitedental.net/how-often-do-dental-implants-need-to-be-replaced/#respond Sat, 15 Jan 2022 16:51:52 +0000 https://www.mesquitedental.net/?p=2490 Read more]]>

If you have been recommended for dental implants, you may wonder if they will ever have to be replaced. Implants are a permanent restorative solution for patients seeking that perfect smile. Dental implants look and feel natural in the mouth, and last upwards of 25 years if they are cared for properly.

At Mesquite Dental & Implant Center are one of the most common restorative options done in our dental offices! Many patients are leaning towards this permanent option to give them a durable smile that will last for years. Dental implants can last your entire life, and they are one of the most reliable tooth restoration options available to patients.

However, some patients have asked us if having their teeth cleaned regularly can damage the enamel on our teeth. We hope that this article can help address this common concern.

How Successful Are Dental Implants?

Implants have a 95% success rate, and we encourage patients to use good oral hygiene habits to keep the implants clean and free of plaque. This helps the implants to last, and prevents infection which can make them unstable in the mouth. Implants moving or needing replacement is rare. If an implant shifts out of place this could indicate the bone tissue is not providing enough support, and you should contact our dental office immediately.

TIPS TO ENSURE YOUR DENTAL IMPLANTS LAST A LIFETIME

Here are some helpful tips that you can start using to get the most out of your dental implants:

 • Floss daily using an implant specific floss or wax free floss to help keep the area clean and free of plaque. A Waterpik Water Flosser can be used to assist in removing plaque around the implants.
 • Use a low abrasive tooth brush such as a soft type brush on your implants.
 • Avoid any products, foods, or drinks containing any ingredients that may stain your teeth.
 • Anti-microbial rinses can be used to help reduce inflammation and prevent infection.
 • Avoid products that contain stannous fluoride, sodium fluoride, or baking soda. These ingredients can make the implants prone to corrosion.

Contact Mesquite Dental & Implant Center Today!

Caring for your implants at home is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Practicing good oral hygiene habits at home will ensure your implants last for years and never need to be replaced. What is a Dental Bone Graft? https://www.mesquitedental.net/what-is-a-dental-bone-graft/ https://www.mesquitedental.net/what-is-a-dental-bone-graft/#respond Wed, 15 Dec 2021 09:12:24 +0000 https://www.mesquitedental.net/?p=2456 Read more]]>

A dental bone graft is typically used for patients that have jawbone issues. Bone grafts are a common procedure and have been done for years. The procedure is relatively minor and can be done quickly. If patients have lost a tooth or have severe gum disease, bone grafts can be used to help restore your gums and jaw. Over time gum disease can progress if not treated and cause bone loss. This can affect your appearance, and cause your jaw to sag or look sunken in. At this point there is no bone left to support your face. Bone grafting can help to restore the support needed.

How Does Bone Grafting Work?

Typically, the procedure is done before your implant is placed. If you need to have a tooth removed that is done first, and then we will prepare the area for a bone graft if the patient does not have enough bone present to support the dental implant. This graft will help to create a stable base for your new tooth. Bone grafts can be taken from your own body, and are commonly taken from the back of the jawbone. Another option is to use a bone grafting material. This option is common because the patient does not need a surgical incision to reach the bone.

The area is cleaned and the bone grafting material is placed. Once the bone graft is complete the patient will need to heal for a few months before you can come back to have your implant placed. This gives the graft time to heal and develop new bone around the graft area. The procedure takes a few hours and is relatively simple.

What Can I Expect During Healing?

Some pain is expected after a bone graft procedure, but should subside after a few days. Patients can treat the area with a cold compress and take over the counter medications to help ease the pain. We recommend a liquid diet after your bone graft procedure. Slowly patients can introduce soft foods, and eventually resume their normal diet.
